CZECHS IN UNIFORM

The Texas Czech Genealogical Society would like to honor all those who have served their country, either in peacetime
or during wartime
, by documenting their service in a book to be published in late 2009. This book will contain those who have served, or who are currently serving, in the military of the United States, the Czech Republic, or the lands of Czechoslovakia. To be one of high quality, this soft-covered book will be treasured for years to come.
Our goal is to document as many Czechs In Uniform as possible, not just Texas Czechs.
With this in mind, we encourage each of you to submit information about those in your family who have served their country using the following guidelines.

1. Submission must be on either a floppy disk or CD and should be prepared using MS Word. Information should be typed using #12 Times New Roman font, single spaced with double spacing between paragraphs. Margins should be set at one (1) inch. (If someone wishes to submit information and does not have access to a computer, please notify Charlene Hurta and volunteer helpers will be recruited.)
2. What to submit:
A. Name of person who has served his/her country in the past or is currently serving. Individuals do not have to have a 100% Czech surname. Many Czechs carry the surname of "Smith", "Thomas", etc.
Persons need only to be of Czech descent.
B. List the person's Czech ancestor as this will add much genealogical information and also help with a non-Czech surname.
C. Give as much information as possible, such as: date of birth, date of death if person is now deceased, Branch of Service, enlistment and discharge dates, rank and sites where person was stationed.
D. Photo of service man or woman in uniform , if you have one. Please send either an original photo or a good quality
reproduction scanned at 300 dpi or higher. In order to publish a high quality book, we are sorry but we cannot accept photocopies. Your photographs will be returned.
E. Please feel free to submit an article concerning the service persons military service. However, this is not a requirement Written articles should be limited to five (5) pages.
F. A special section will be dedicated to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
G. If you have an article, or are researching through various publications and locate articles on those in the military, please photocopy the article and re-type submitting it on a floppy disk or CD. Be sure to give the publication name
along with the date and page number of publication. In order to use this information, we must give credit to the publication. If the information is not documented, we will not be able to use the article. In the event a particular
article is submitted by more than one person, credit will be given to all who submitted it.

Deadline for submitting material will be January 9, 2009. Submit all information to:
Charlene Hurta, 1231 CR 201A, Angleton, TX 77515 - 979.849.0348.
